Beautiful Bird Art in Wood & Limited Edition Fine Art Bronze by Andrew Glasby and the late Alan Glasby OBE GM. Patination on all work is created by Andrew Glasby

AG Sculptures was founded in 1988 by Alan Glasby OBE GM. Alan was born in Chesterfield and joined the army at a young age, becoming a bomb disposal officer in the RAOC and rising through the ranks to LT Colonel. Whilst posted in Northern Ireland he was awarded the George Medal for gallantry and for his role in the first Gulf war, he was awarded the OBE He had an incredible talent for target shooting and won the Queen's Medal for Champion shot in the British Army at age 24. This led to Alan representing Great Britain in shooting for ten years and he claimed a team gold medal at the World Championships in Seoul 1974. Whilst still serving in the RAOC, he was inspired by a colleage at a regimental dinner night and decided to "have a go at carving". This released an a remarkable hidden talent that Alan embraced to the full until his passing in March 2008. Alan was predominantly a woodcarver and later would have his work cast in limited edition bronzes. Commissions include a half size Golden Eagle for presentation to the Queen to commemorate 50 years as Air Commodore in Chief and Snipe for the RSPB, presented annually as an award for wetlands conservation. Completely self taught, his work is admired and collected worldwide and he left a legacy of beautiful works that will be treasured forever. Andrew Glasby was born in Middlesex and educated at the Duke of York's Royal Military School, Dover. His first love was cricket and whilst at school had trials for Kent and was selected for the Lord's Taverner's Award Course. His main passion is Martial Arts and in March 2020, after 29 years of training he was successful in promoting to 7th Degree Black Belt Master Instructor in the Art of Taekwon-do. He joined his best friend from school in 1991 in the family run business and later became co owner and Sales Director. After his father's passing in 2008, Andrew decided he would take Alan's legacy on and made the difficult decision to resign his position and enter this new world head first. With no formal training and only having seen Alan working on a few occasions, it was an uphill struggle but with persistence and patience, Andrew learned the secret patination techniques that Alan had created. A year on, Andrew thought he would "have a go" at creating sculpture of his own and the rest is history. Having created well over 60 original pieces, his work is collected worldwide.
